Okay, I want an explanation….

Okay, let me start this off by saying that I’m a pretty normal guy who does what he can to stay healthy and fit. I have a full time job, and even a part time job that I do each weeknight. I’m not some muscle head who spends five hours in the gym (that probably could be condensed into a more effective hour or so), and I’m not a marathon runner who lives to put one foot in front of the other. I may joke, but, it’s not that I look down on people like that, it just isn’t me. They are usually pretty great at what they can do, but I don’t have that amount of time, and I seek a bit more balance.

I’m actually a little underweight for my height, but this definitely not because I avoid eating. I eat a pretty large amount of calories in a given day, and I can’t tell you the exact amount because I have learned in my travels that it is simply not helpful to count them. Eat quality foods with some degree of moderation and you probably have a lot less to worry about than you think. After reading books like  Living Lean BY Mike Dolce and Never Be Fat Again by Ray Francis, it became clear that the quality of your diet matters, and that there are some easy pitfalls to avoid. I can elaborate on this further at another time. Let me vent though.

It’s always interesting to me how people react to a thinner male in today’s world. Anorexic jokes start flying and people think it’s cool to tell you to have a sandwich. Could you imagine if I did the reverse? “Hey buddy, nice gut!” or “How’s that red meat and cake diet working out for you?” might not be taken so well. Some folks are surprised when I get visibly pissed off by all of this. I don’t have an eating disorder… and if I did, would it really be appropriate to have a laugh over it? Keep eating those “Smart Ones”… I’m sure the preservatives and microwavable contents are great for you. Shouldn’t someone be wary of anything that smells the same whether it’s ravioli or beef burritos? More to come next time about exercise and how I stumbled my way towards something worthwhile.

  1. LOL – ahhh I love this post – what an enjoyable read – I’m on your side! The sad part is in america FAT seems to be in & if you said to some1 “Hey buddy, nice gut!” it probably wouldn’t be taken very offensive – we’ve become a nation of biggest loser & total body makeover. I spent some time in Thailand & can honestly say I don’t remember seeing any obese folk. In fact I noticed there was not much talk about charity organizations to donate to for sick children; yet, the second I hit U.S. airport the 1st sign I saw was for donating to research on some sickness – it’s all a fraud & money-making scheme…o shoot look at me now I’m venting – lol Just stopped by to say I enjoyed your post & commend you on sticking to healthy eating! Roc on!
