Exercise Excuses… No, your body isn’t buying it!

Excuses are a great way to avoid guilt when we never exercise. In our minds, it all makes sense, and we couldn’t have found a way given the set of circumstances we are facing. I’m glad your mind believes it because your body doesn’t. Your body does not think that you opted for the bacon breakfast at Denny’s because working out just wasn’t going to happen today, or because you didn’t want to have to take another shower. Sadly, you can’t fool it.

I’ve been injured, and the first day back is often a tough one, filled with the sudden realization that I’d lost some of the progress that I’d worked so hard to make. Though this wasn’t my fault, my body didn’t care about blame. It just didn’t function the way I wanted it to.  I had resist the urge to go absolutely crazy one day and risk injuring myself again.

If you’ve been making excuses, now is a great time to stop. The occasional day of laziness is far different from sinking into a life of sedentary malaise. This will affect the quality of your life, and it will also makes it harder to get back into the swing of things. Make the easy choice now, instead of the hard choices later. Your body works hard for you 24 hours a day. Is a half hour/hour of your time too much to ask? Take care of yourselves, and stay involved in proactively avoiding trouble later on.
